Fire displaces a Family in Bloomfield Township

Fire crews from multiple departments were called to 23557 Range Rd in Bloomfield Township this evening for a structure fire. The call came in around 9:30pm.

The two story single family residence has substantial damage, according to the Bloomfield Fire Chief on scene. Although the exact cause is yet undetermined it is likely that the blaze started in the furnace area. 
The fire crews arrived on scene and quickly had the fire under control, however the furnace and chimney were located in the middle of the home which allowed the flames to spread from the center outward and upward.

The family was home at the time of the blaze but were able to escape unharmed.

Garage Fire in Vernon Township

Several companies were called to 12674 St Hwy 98 in Meadville shortly before 6pm this evening for a garage fire.


When the call was originally dispatched it was feared there was entrapment, but it turned out that Tom Mason, the owner of the property had stopped working on restoring vehicles around 4pm and was visiting with neighbors.

Tom noticed traffic slowing down on the road and went outside to investigate. It was then he saw that his garage was fully engulfed in flames. 

Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the residence. The garage which contained several tractors, a 1987 corvette and tools, is a total loss.

Early Morning Cochranton Fire

A two alarm fire had emergency crews responding to D&R Care Car at 2:30am this morning. 

The structure was heavily involved in flames when the first crew arrived on scene and it quickly spread to the entire building.

No one was in the structure at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported. 

The black smoke filled the air as a stack of tires began to burn. The firemen scrambled to remove any tires that they could before the situation got worse.

There is no word at this time as to the cause of the fire.

Clean Car Crash

A little excitement at the new car wash in town today around 4pm. An elderly driver apparently confused the accelerator and the brake pedal upon entering the car wash.

She sped through the building missing the Car Wash Employee and all of the interior components of the car wash system. A vehicle which had just pulled out of the exit of the wash was impacted and both vehicles ended up a significant distance from the impact site.

Neither driver was injured but one passenger was taken by ambulance to Meadville Medical Center as a precaution.

The Car Wash remains open for business and was not damaged.

Fire in Spartansburg

Fire was reported shortly after 4pm at the Miller residence at 25983 Byler Rd in Spartansburg. The blaze was contained to the workshop and did not spread to the home.
The building was fully engulfed when the Fire Department arrived on scene. Crews from Spartansburg, Elgin Beaver Dam and Bloomfield fought the fire in the bitter cold.

School Board Meeting in Spartansburg

Concerns and questions in regards to the closing of the Spartansburg School were able to be voiced by the local residents this evening at a meeting in the Spartansburg Fire Hall. The meeting was well attended and the concern was high. 

The school board was in attendance along with State Rep Brad Roae, and County Commissioners.

Flooding Concerns are Reduced

Concerns for flooding in Meadville are greatly reduced as the water levels and ice dam move away from Lupher's Landing this morning.

The difference in the water level from the bottom of the bridge is substantial from the day before.

Water levels near Wilson Shute (near Rt 322) and Route 19 South near Geneva are right at the road's edge, but so far both roads remain open.

Ice Dam in Saegertown causes concern for Meadville

An ice jam near Lupher's Landing just off Route 19 south of Saegertown caused alarms to be raised in towns downstream on French Creek. Meadville emergency services were put on alert as the massive blockage continued to grow.

It was ice as far as the eye could see, and the popping and cracking made eerie noises near the creek area.

Residents along the creek were advised to watch for rapidly changing conditions and rising flood waters in the area immediately behind the ice dam.

Route 18 Rollover

A rollover accident sent one passenger to the Meadville Medical Center this morning around 8am this morning.

Standing water on the roadway caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it left the roadway coming to rest on its roof.

The driver who was wearing a seatbelt was transported with minor injuries, the young passenger was secured in a carseat and was uninjured.

Conneaut Lake Crash

A single vehicle accident near Pizza Joe's on route 18 happened around 1pm today. Conneaut Lake fire department responded and the driver was taken by Conneaut Lake Ambulance to Port Meadville to meet Stat Medevac to be life flown to UPMC Hamot.

The cause of the accident appears to be a pre existing medical condition

The current medical condition of the driver is unknown at this time

Putnum Rd Rollover

A rollover accident on Putnam Rd in Vernon Township was a wild ride for one local puppy.

The accident occurred shortly after 5:30 pm.

The vehicle which was traveling down the hill, lost control and skid 180 degrees and then flipped coming to rest on its roof.

The driver and the passenger puppy were able to self extricate and were uninjured.

Shooting in Meadville

5 shots were fired shortly after 4:30 am into a front door at 504 Randolph St near the intersection of Stewart St this morning. No one in the residence was injured.

Police have Rashon Lamar Jones in custody at this time. Reportedly there was an altercation at the residence and he has been charged with reckless endangerment and simple assault

Springboro Home Destroyed by Fire

A fire in Springboro leaves a family homeless this evening.

The fire which broke out while the couple was at dinner, devastated the structure. One dog was with the couple the other dog was at home during the blaze and was not able to escape the flames.

Crews worked for several hours to get the fire under control and were called back to the structure for a rekindle later.

Plow Truck Fire

Conneaut Lake Fire and Police Departments responded to a vehicle fire shortly after 6am this morning at the Conneaut Lake Sand and Gravel on Ellion Rd.

According to Assistant Chief John Treacy the driver was plowing when fire broke out inside the cab of the pickup truck. The fast acting driver was able to escape the vehicle uninjured.

The pickup truck was fully engulfed in flames when the firemen arrived on scene but they were able to extinguish it quickly. No word at this time as to the cause of the blaze.

Meadville Apartment Building Demolished

Crews worked in tandem today to demolish the apartment building that was the site of the Jan 28th fire.  Although the cause of the blaze is still yet undetermined, the building was deemed to be too unsafe to allow it to remain standing.

As some of the former residents looked on, the two backhoes made short work of the historic building. The main portion of the remains were demolished within 2 hours and clean up will continue.

The fate of the property is still uncertain

Apartment Fire in Meadville

Several families are homeless this evening after a fire broke out in a multifamily apartment building at 6pm this evening at 390 Chestnut St in Meadville near the intersection of Liberty St

At least 8 Fire Departments were called to the blaze in the sub zero temperatures. All residents home at the time of the incident were successfully evacuated.

At 6:35 the command ordered the evacuation of all firemen in the structure.

Shortly after this evacuation, the flames became visible from the outside.

At this time a cause is unknown and the building appears to be a total loss.

Titusville Home Fire

Titusville, Hydetown, Pleasantville and Cherry Tree Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 630 S Franklin St in Titusville around 8:15 this evening.

No one was home at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Lt Lhuillier of the Titusville Fire Department stated the home was a total loss and unininsured although the tenants do have renter's insurance.

Fireman fought the blaze in extreme low temperatures and Sheetz in Titusville provided the firemen hot coffee to help them warm up. 

Titusville was called back a second time in the wee hours of the morning for a flare up.

Jeep Fire Vernon Township

Vernon Central fire department responded to a vehicle fire a little after 9 am this morning.

The fire had been put out by hand extinguishers by the time the firemen arrived on scene and the car had been pushed away from the building to prevent the fire from spreading to the welding shop.

Electrical issues are the suspected cause of the blaze. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied when the fire broke out and there were no injuries reported.

A chimney fire in the early morning had crews out in the bitter cold.

The fire was contained to the stove pipe in a detached garage and was quickly dealt with by the fire departments on scene.

No injuries were reported and there was no fire damage to the structure.

Head on Collision on S Norrisville Rd

a head on collision involving two vehicles sent three people to the hospital shortly after noon today. 

Summit and Hayfield Fire Departments,Conneaut Lake Ambulance, Stat Medevac and Pa State Police responded to the call.

Two patients were transported via ambulance to Meadville Medical Center and one patient was extricated from the wreckage and flown to UPMC Hamot.

No word at this time as to the cause of the accident or the condition of the occupants.

East End School Sprinkler Break

A sprinkler break on the second floor of 640 Walnut St, formerly the East End Elementary school in Meadville this afternoon.

Currently the facility houses a portion of the Crawford Central School Districts administrative offices, as well as Head Start and is the new home of the YMCA gymnastics program.

The building was evacuated and no one was injured. The water made its way to the first floor as well.

Meadville Central Fire and Meadville Ambulance along with Crawford Central School District Maintenance  Departments responded and quickly got the situation under control.

Coldest Day for Meadville Fire

A fire broke out in the early morning in the frigid -11 degree temperatures at 233 Boileau Place in Meadville.

The multifamily residence was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The fire was primarily contained to one apartment on the second floor and a space heater malfunction was suspected.

Meadville Central, West Mead 1 & 2, Vernon Central and Saegertown Fire Departments were called to the scene.

Hollis Rd SUV Accidnet

Single Motor vehicle accident on Hollis Rd Meadville near the intersection N Watson Run Rd

SUV lost control coming down Hollis Rd and spun 180 degrees striking a tree on the drivers side.

5 people were in the vehicle, 3 needed extrication

Vernon Central Hose, Meadville Ambulance and Vernon Township Police were on scene.

2 patients were transported to Meadville Medical Center and one was transported to UPMC Hamot via air.

No word at this time the condition of the injured.

Conneaut Lake Fire

Five companies responded to 12236 Comstock St for a two story single family residence fire.

The fire started in the back room on the Second floor and the second floor appears heavily damaged and fire has moved into the first floor,

Two dogs and two cats were rescued by a neighbor who broke the front door to save the animals. One cat is still missing at this time.

Neighboring house also has some damage to the exterior siding.
